Endoscopic carpal tunnel release
Is endoscopic carpal tunnel release really better than open surgery? I would say it depends on who is doing the surgery! If the surgeon has had specific training and experience in endoscopic CTR surgery, the answer is yes. In well equiped hospitals, as we have in Sydney, it is possible to take advantage of this modern procedure. It is safe too, as long as the surgeon follows the rule of “don’t see, don’t cut”.
Patients recover twice as quickly after endoscopic CTR compared with open CTR, and there it is more convenient. It is really a reasonable possibility to have simultaneous surgery on both hands, if both are affected, with endoscopic CTR.
